Ricky Stuart - Has He Lost The Plot After Selections for Origin 2 Team

The Mad Chatter - Tuesday, June 07, 2011
Ricky Stuart

Forget about the mate against mate, and state against state tags for a moment. The NSW supporters are against each other. The Blues fans are divided over whether they think their coach Ricky Stuart has lost the plot with what many think are strange selections and a contradiction of selection policy or whether the master coach knows exactly what he is doing.

While all this is going on, the Queensland team remains largely unchanged except for the return of super star Greg Inglis. The Queenslanders are just going about their business like they always do and I bet if you rang Big Mal right now and asked about the dramas in the NSW camp, he'd simply say, "What dramas? We leave NSW to run their own race and we just concentrate on our game." The Queenslanders always seems to be better prepared and more relaxed in Origin camps.

I don't care one way or the other who is selected for the NSW Blues but I am concerned the coach has back-flipped on his selection policies and is too proud to admit it. I hope Ricky isn't painting himself into a corner here...... I have received heaps of comments on the NSW team and selections of Ricky Stuart so I thought I'd offer some evidence to determine if he has lost the plot and offer my NSW team for Origin 2.

Fact 1: Ricky says he wont pick players out of position - William Hopoate picked in the centres for NSW but plays on the wing at club level, Jarry Hayne picked on the wing for NSW but plays fullback at club level, Paul Gallen picked at prop for NSW but plays at lock at club level. Need we say more here.....Plus specialist fullback Jarryd Hayne was not used when Josh Dugan was ruled out with an injury.

Fact 2: Ricky says he is picking a team for the future - William Hopoate is off on a religious sabbatical for two years soon so wont be around to be part of a core group of players. Ricky picks veteran Anthony Minichiello for his 10th Blues jersey over other players who will be around for years to come. Also current Australian centre and NSW's 18th man in Origin 1, Jamal Idris, can't get a start even after there are injuries.

Fact 3: Ricky says the NSW forwards were not strong enough in Origin 1 - Ricky moves Gallen, who is an exceptional player but no prop forward, into starting prop. What about selecting some big boppers like Brett White or Michael Weyman??

Fact 4: Ricky says it is not about winning but getting the right blokes together for the future - Ummm What??? Surely it is his job to coach the team to victory or at the very least aim to do so. Also read Fact 2 again.....

Not sure whether these facts lead Ricky Stuart to be classed as someone who has lost the plot but definitely there is some big contradictions. I acknowledge he has been faced with injuries and possible suspensions but this still leaves me and many NSW fans scratching our heads.

So if Ricky is carted off to have his head read in the next few days, and The Mad Chatter gets a call up, this is who I'd have in the NSW team for Origin 2.

1. Jarryd Hayne

2. William Hopoate

3. Mark Gasnier

4. Jamal Idris

5. Akuila Uate - If out suspended then Luke Burt

6. Jamie Soward

7. Mitchell Pearce

8. Brett White

9. Michael Ennis

10. Tim Mannah

11. Ben Creagh

12. Paul Gallen C

13. Greg Bird

14. Michael Weyman

15. Anthony Watmough

16.Kurt Gidley

17. Luke Lewis

Let me know whether you think Ricky has lost the plot and if you're a NSW Blues supporter let me know who you would select in your team. Cheers
